When is the lottery announced each year?
The public lottery is held within the first 2 weeks of February. Please check the garden webpage at this time.
Are gardeners able to re-lease their garden bed for more than one year?
Yes, repeat gardeners help support the new gardeners in our community, which is a wonderful support to an all volunteer committee. Gardeners are only allowed to re-lease the same garden bed for 3 years in a row and then they must reapply through the public lottery.
What are the general requirements to apply for a garden bed?
Must be a full-time resident of Verona, NJ.
What is the general community garden season?
The season runs from March 1 - Dec 1
How much does it cost to lease a garden bed?
Due to high demand, half beds are only being offered in 2025, which are $30 per half bed.
How is the Community Garden funded?
Landsberger Foundation, Sustainable Jersey, PSEG Foundation and the Partners for Health Foundation are major sponsors. We also receive donations from local organizations such as the Verona Education Association, The Women’s Club of Verona, The Junior Women's Club, Hearth Realty and private individuals. Funds are also received through the lease costs per bed.
