Verona's first of two drinking water wells is back in operation

Significant progress has been made to our drinking water, with the first of two wells coming back into operation. As of last week, the Linn Drive well is now fully operational. This well supplies water to the Forest/Oakridge sections of Town reducing our dependency on external water sources. We anticipate a reduction of approximately 25% in water purchased from the Passaic Valley Water Commission.

To improve the quality and reliability of our water supply, we have integrated several new features into our Linn Drive well water system, which include:

  • Arsenic treatment
  • PFAS treatment
  • New chlorine system, which acts as a disinfectant
  • Corrosion pipe treatment, designed to increase the longevity of our piping infrastructure

These efforts are designed to not only meet, but exceed the state standards. Due to air that needs to make its way through the new system some residences may experience cloudy water or increased water pressure. This presents no risk to the quality of the water, is safe for drinking and is expected to dissipate soon. These new enhancements to the Linn Drive Well have been made largely possible due to the support from a $2 million grant from NJ Infrastructure Bank and will enhance our self-sufficiency and reduce our long-term operational cost.

Looking ahead, we anticipate to start work on the Fairview Ave Well later this year. Thank you to the entire Public Works team for their unwavering commitment to our community and vigilant work to ensure Verona's new water system is top-notch. We appreciate the community's support and patience as we continue to improve and modernize our water infrastructure. Check VeronaNJ.org for further updates and information.
