For generations, Everett Field has been a legacy in Verona. Many of us have fond memories of playing in baseball or softball games or cheering from the sidelines throughout our childhoods still continue to this day. As time marches on, the field is due for some tender care to restore its luster and elevate it to the standards that Verona deserves.

Thanks to funding assistance from Green Acres, the Community Development Block Grant Programs (CDBG), and Verona Baseball and Softball League (VBSL), a comprehensive renovation project is slated to start this summer. Here are some of the exciting new features that residents can anticipate:

1. Natural Grass Field: A new grass surface will grace the park keeping its legacy charm, while also providing the many benefits of natural playing surfaces including stormwater management, soil erosion, water conservation, air quality and reduction of injury risk.

2. Versatile Uses: The field's design will cater to softball, league baseball and optimal placement of pitching mound and bases for intermediate baseball.

3. Enhanced Training Facilities: New batting cages will be available for both home and away teams, ensuring everyone has the facilities they need to practice and improve their skills. New lighting will include energy efficient LED bulbs.

4. Inclusive and Accessible Play Areas: A new ADA compliant paved parking lot will safely accommodate 50+ parking spaces and an ADA-compliant playground will provide a fun and safe area for children of all abilities. 

   - Snack Bar 

   - ADA Accessible Bleachers & Restrooms: Ensuring everyone can comfortably enjoy the game-day experience.

   - Picnic benches will offer spaces for families and friends to gather and enjoy the park's atmosphere.

6. Thoughtful Landscaping: Extensive care will be given to landscaping with a focus on natural techniques. This not only enhances the beauty of the park but also aids in stormwater management, privacy for nearby neighborhoods, and screens light and noise. Collaboration with the Shade Tree Commission and the Verona Environmental Commission ensures that tree removal and planting are conducted sustainably, balancing ecology with community needs.

As these upgrades transform Everett Field, the legacy of this cherished community space is set to grow with it, offering a revitalized venue where new memories can continue to be forged. The renovations are a testament to Verona’s commitment to maintaining its traditions while embracing progress and inclusivity.
