Projects along the Peckman River are complex and focus on long term solutions to issues like stormwater management, flooding, bank erosion, pollution and more. The Township takes these issues very seriously and continues to address them while working closely with residents, neighboring towns, Essex County, The NJ Department of Environmental Protection, FEMA, The Army Corps of Engineers and our Local, State and Federal Elected Officials.
Completed Projects:
- Natural debris removal/clearing (trees, limbs, rocks) after Hurricane Ida - March 2022
- Identified several locations with severe bank erosion to begin stabilization process
- Setup process with Essex County to lower Verona Lake ahead of major storms where heavy rainfall is expected
- Rutgers Engineering Study - Rutgers students continue to perform studies and add helpful data
Planned & Ongoing Projects:
- Work with NJDEP on bank stabilization in priority areas
Work with FEMA on securing funding for hazard mitigation areas
Flood mitigation efforts near Wastewater Treatment Plant
Annual maintenance and clearing of debris
Engineering studies for solutions on stormwater control and bank erosion
